LOVE

LOVE and respect by earth.

Family

This private project would not be possible without the caring hand of our FAMILY.

Friends

The same goes with FRIENDS. Friends to help in the vineyard, friends to toast and drink the wine, this is all part of the pleasure of receiving this gift from nature.

Sustainability

Our vineyard is FREE FROM HERBICIDES. This means that all herbs that grow on the basis of the vines and in between the lines is cut by mechanical means and not poisoned. This represents a huge cost in hours of human labor but we do not abdicate of this method.

Ecology

The vineyard is planted in a GRANITE SOIL and there is NO ARTIFICIAL IRRIGATION. This means that the water it receives is provided by nature. Sometimes in late July or August the plant enters into HYDRIC STRESS. That’s part of the process and we trust in the elements to provide us the best grapes.
By not using herbicide we also preserve the water that flows underneath the terrain. Some of it is used by a system of underground granite corridors where the rain water is collected and reused in our farm.
There is an underground maze of corridors built in granite, called “MINA”, to collect and reuse rain water.

GENEROSITY

For our consumption and to give away, in Quinta Lobo da Estrela we also produce olive oil (extra virgin, with low acidity), with some dozens of centenary olive trees, apples, oranges, kiwis, pears, prunes, laurel and other fruits and plants. We let them grow without the use of pesticides. You will see that the oranges, for instance, have all the seeds that nowadays we do not see in commercial OGM oranges.

Human Factor: KEEP THIS LAND ALIVE

All works in the vineyard are made with human labour, either from Jorge and Yaël or our families and friends.
For some tasks that need to be done intensively, such as keeping the vegetation at a reasonable level, the vindima (picking) or the poda we may cooperate with our neighbours to help us on those tasks and vice-versa.
For other tasks in the farm, such as the harvest of olives to produce olive oil, we also rely on our neighbours – this way we help to provide work and keep people living in the land they love.
